POSTERS highlighting domestic violence are to be displayed throughout the North-East.
The charity Refuge, which helps abused women, has launched a national campaign aimed at raising awareness of the crime.
The organisation hopes to change attitudes, save lives and decrease the death toll with the candid £1m Don't Ignore It campaign.
Posters show three scenes of domestic violence incidents.
Sandra Horley, chief executive of Refuge, said: "Every day at Refuge we see many women with black eyes and broken bones. We know about the despair, fear and terror that women and children face. It's time to take a stand. It's time for change."
By the end of this year, the charity estimates 140 women will have died at the hands of a current or former partner.
People in the region are being asked to donate old mobile phones, which are being recycled by the Body Shop to raise funds for Refuge.
