BEDLINGTON and Blyth District Riding Club had cause for a double celebration last year.
Club members attended the National Riding Championships and their sponsored ride resulted in a cheque for more than £1,000 being presented to the Great North Air Ambulance.
Debbie Mather, organiser of the sponsored ride, was pleased to raise the money after club member Brenda Bewick had to be air-lifted to hospital following an equestrian accident.
She said: "Brenda was clipping a quiet horse when he lashed out and pushed her into the stable wall, catching the back of her head. We have all learnt to wear our hats even when doing routine stable work."
The sponsored ride took place on the Blaydon Estate and all involved were keen to thank Lord Ridley and his staff for their generous support.
The Great North Air Ambulance operates two helicopters, one based in Blyth and the other at Teesside Airport.
With 14pc of each year's call-outs to equestrian accidents, further support is needed from all horse owners, pony clubs and riding clubs. Anyone who would like to help can call Pippa Holt on 01325 487263.
The picture above shows Debbie Mather and Vera Harrison, treasurer, presenting the cheque to Tim MacDonald and Steve McManus of GNAA with Vanessa Wark on Wild Coincidence looking on with other members of the club.
