THE work of schools in Hartlepool to encourage pupils to lead healthy lifestyles is to be recognised tomorrow.
The celebration at the Education Development Centre (EDC), in Seaton Lane, aims to highlight the progress made by schools taking part in the Hartlepool Healthy Schools scheme, the locally accredited version of the National Healthy School Standards.
The scheme involves schools working to complete eight modules based on the themes of citizenship, physical activity, safety, drug education, sex and relationship education, healthy eating, personal, social and health education and emotional health and well-being. Each completed module earns a school a certificate, with schools completing all eight modules receiving a plaque.
The Hartlepool Healthy Schools scheme, which has been operating for three years, is run by Hartlepool Borough Council's education department in partnership with the Hartlepool Primary care Trust (PCT).
Sandra Saint, the council's healthy schools co-ordinator, said: "We currently have 30 schools across the town taking part in the scheme and they have all made excellent progress in a relatively short period of time."
