HUNDREDS of youngsters abandoned their school uniforms yesterday to help save their cash-strapped football team.
Pupils at 16 schools in Darlington wore football shirts and other casual clothes to raise money for the town's football club, which is in administration.
The money will boost the Darlington Supporters' Trust £250,000 appeal to save the Quakers.
Among those taking part were youngsters at Whinfield Infants School, who divided the proceeds between the Quakers and Unicef.
During the past year, the school has raised £5,322 for a variety of charities.
Headteacher Sheila Williams said: "Parents, pupils and staff at the school are amazingly generous and always support the fundraising events we organise.
"Our fundraising activities have included a marathon sing-along, a teddy bear's picnic, a bad hair day and wearing sunglasses and dressing up. Everyone in the school gets involved -that is all 264 children, staff, parents and helpers."
