DAVID HODGSON has promised to waste no more time and hands Sunderland striker Neil Teggart his debut at Huddersfield this afternoon.

The 19-year-old last night put pen to paper on a one-month loan at the Reynolds Arena after French midfielder Fabien Bossy agreed to have his contract terminated.

There were fears that Bossy's reluctance to leave earlier in the week would thwart Hodgson's latest attempts to bring the Northern Ireland Under-19 forward to the club.

Football League regulations restrict clubs in administration to no more than 20 full-time players.

However, former Clyde midfielder Bossy has accepted a financial package, paving the way for Teggart - whose wages are being paid by the Black Cats - to join the club.

Hodgson saw a move for Teggart fall through last month after the 19-year-old picked up a hamstring injury in training.

The Quakers boss last night expressed his delight at landing the highly-rated forward, who was top scorer for Sunderland Under-19s last season.

"We've had to be patient but we're delighted to have finally pushed through the deal," said Hodgson.

"We haven't spent nearly two months in signing him to leave him on the bench, so the lad will go straight into the team at Huddersfield.

"The boy is really excited about the move. The advantage we have is that he's trained with us all week so he's been able to get to know the lads before signing.

"He has a very good scoring record at youth level but he needs to prove that in a League situation.

"Mick McCarthy has been fantastic under the circumstances and hopefully we can help Neil with his progress as a player."

Sunderland are paying Teggart's wages and chairman Bob Murray said: "This is a difficult time for all concerned at Darlington and we want to help. We have loaned Neil to them and are happy to cover the costs."

Bossy has struggled to make an impact at the Reynolds Arena since joining the club in the summer, making just six starts.

"Unfortunately Fabien has not played a big part in the team and for that reason it was a decision we had to make," said Hodgson.

"It's not nice to ask somebody to make way in their career to help the club, but Fabien understands the situation."

Bossy has ruled out a return to his native France and is keen to get another break in the English game.

He will train with Quakers while he looks for a new club.

New boy Teggart will join Neil Wainwright and Barry Conlon in an adventurous three-man attack today against Peter Jackson's in-form Terriers, who have won their last six games.

Jackson was named Third Division manager of the month this week for the run which began with a 1-0 win at the Reynolds Arena in December.

"Huddersfield have been playing well but we will be going there to win," said Hodgson. "In our position we cannot go with any other motive.

"Peter Jackson has done a fantastic job and he fully deserves the award. They've had a great run but hopefully it ends on Saturday."

Teggart's arrival will see Hodgson make at least one change from the side which beat Rochdale a week ago.

He could revert to a 3-4-3 formation with one midfielder making way.

Defender Ryan Valentine is available after serving a one-match ban against Dale but may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Danny Mellanby remains sidelined with a back injury but Hodgson admitted the 24-year-old could still feature this season.

The injury will not require surgery as was first thought and the former Bishop Auckland forward could make a return as early as March.

"It looked as if he was going to be out for the rest of the season but Danny could be back within a month," said Hodgson.

"He will not have to have an operation but he will need to take an injection.

"He's got a lot of hard work ahead but hopefully we can see him back in March."

Midfielder Clark Keltie has suffered a recurrence of an ankle injury and misses the trip to West Yorkshire. The Terriers, meanwhile, have their own problems to contend with.

Top scorer Jon Stead completed a £1m move to Blackburn this week, while Andy Booth remains doubtful with a groin injury. Defender Ian Hughes is ruled out with a knee injury.

Bookmakers are offering odds of 6/1 for an away win today.

However, Jackson remains cautious and believes the game is anything but a foregone conclusion.

"The last thing I want is people turning up on Saturday thinking it will be an easy three points," warned Jackson.

"No-one has smashed them this season. No-one has put three or four past them.

"They don't score many goals, but they don't concede many either.

"They gave us a game at the Reynolds Arena and I truly believe they are in a false position in the League."

Under-16s can gain entry to all areas of the ground for a pound today under the club's quid-a-kid scheme.

Meanwhile, former Durham County cricketer Michael Gough is on trial with Quakers.

The 24-year-old quit first-class cricket last year.

And - after impressing in spells at Horden and Jarrow earlier in the season - the Hartlepool-born defender is playing in the UniBond Premier Division with Spennymoor and in the Hartlepool Sunday Morning League for Lion Hillcarter, who were knocked out of the All-England FA Sunday Cup last month.
