PARACHUTING experts from all over the country are planning to drop in at a County Durham airfield at the weekend.

Peterlee Parachute Centre will this weekend host the British Collegiate Parachute Association (BCPA) event.

More than 100 parachuting experts will be arriving on Friday for the get together.

There will be coaching and competitive events including accuracy, freestyle and formation skydiving.

The Peterlee Centre is at the 115 acre Shotton Airfield which has an 800-metre grass runway where for eight months of the year fast climbing turbine parachute aircraft carry out sorties dropping up to 16 parachutist per trip.

This weekend will see the first turbine drops of 2004 over Shotton. Many of those attending will be accommodated on site either in the Centre's bunkhouse or in their own tents and caravans.
