MARRIED in wartime Britain, Mary and Jack Lund yesterday celebrated 60 happy years together.
Dozens of family and friends visited their home in New Brancepeth to celebrate.
Mary, 80, and Jack, 78, were married in St Edmunds Church, Bearpark, in 1944, at a time when Britain was at war and rationing continued to bite.
But despite the shortages, Mary managed to put together a stylish wedding outfit.
At the beginning of their married life, Jack worked in the local pit, later moving into construction.
Mary stayed at home to bring up their seven sons, Malcolm, Jim, Alan, David, Derek, Kenneth and Kevin.
Their family has expanded over the years, and the couple now have 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
