A GROUP of cadets has received an award after four years of hard work.

Four cadets from Cleveland Army Cadet Force (ACF) were awarded Four-Star Certificates by Sir Paul Nicholson, the Lord Lieutenant of Durham, at a ceremony this week.

The award is the ultimate aim of youngsters joining the ACF, and is achieved after four years covering subjects such as drill, community service, physical activity and first aid.

The cadets are assessed at five levels in the subjects.

Sergeant Daniel Gilgallon, of Norton RE detachment, and corporals Dean Barrett, Pamela Jane Baxter and Stuart Neville, all of Hartlepool LI detachment each received certificates.

The commander of Hartlepool Light Infantry detachment, Staff Sergeant Terry Shaw, said: "These cadets are to be congratulated on their achievement. We are all extremely proud of them.

"The Four-Star Certificate is the zenith of four years' non-stop gruelling and exhilarating training, covering a diversity of military and civilian disciplines."

Cleveland Army Cadet Force is looking for youngsters to train as four-star cadets and adults to train them.

No experience is necessary as training will be given.
