A GROUP of young football players have taken the first steps to becoming coaches.
Ten members of Consett YMCA Junior FC have been presented with certificates by Durham County Councillor Clive Robson after they completed the Football Association Level One coaching course.
A further 11 volunteers, helpers and parents have completed the course.
Consett YMCA manager Billy Robson said: "Our football club aims to instill in young people the ethos that football is a good sport, and that from the sport they can go on to bigger things.
"The players, who completed the intensive course over four weeks, will hopefully go on to coach younger teams, depending on what age they are.
"They will hopefully be our future coaches.
"We are already talking about sending some of them for Level Two training."
The football club has a thriving membership with 15 teams, three girls' teams and 12 boys' teams, ranging from under-sevens to under-18s. To join the club, call (01207) 502680.
