NEALE Cooper will return North of the Border to make his first summer signing.

The Hartlepool United boss has offered Jack Ross a deal to move to Victoria Park and the midfielder, who has skippered Clyde to the verge of the Scottish Premier League this season, is ready to move.

Clyde are on the verge of promotion to the SPL, but - even if they are granted permission to join the top-flight if their Broadwood ground meets the strict criteria and the club can pay off its debts - Ross won't be there to enjoy it.

Former Ross County boss Cooper has watched the 27-year-old in action this season and Ross admitted: "I have an offer from Hartlepool and have always wanted to play in England.

"Clyde have not spoken to me which is disappointing after the time I've been here. But we'll see what happens at the end of the season.''

Ross has made 29 appearances this season, playing both on the right wing and central midfield and added: "I have spoken to people in England, I don't think there's any point in not being honest about it.

"I know some people might think, 'SPL v lower Leagues in England', but maybe up here we kid ourselves on a wee bit about how professional we are."

One player who may still be at Victoria Park this summer is Adam Boyd, because his proposed move to Boston looks off.

The striker has spent three months on loan at York Street, but the clubs have been unable to agree terms to make the move permanent.

Boston claimed an improved offer was rejected by Pool and director of football Jim Rodwell said: "They have asked us for an amount of money which we do not think is acceptable to pay.

"I have always said I wanted Adam on board because we rate him very highly. He is a talented player and the fans saw what he could offer us when he was here.

"It is a shame we haven't been able to finalise the deal and I think the time has come for us to concede defeat in this particular chase.

"But the fact it hasn't happened certainly hasn't been for the lack of trying on our part. It is just one of those things."

Jermaine Easter has extended his loan spell at Cambridge for a second month.

The 22-year-old, who signed a two-year deal at Pool last summer, had after a week-long trial last month but has only started two games. A virus put him out of action after he made his debut at Southend and he was knocked unconscious ten minutes into a substitute appearance at Yeovil.

On Saturday, Cambridge lost to Northampton and Easter was guilty of missing four good openings. Boss John Taylor said: "We want to keep Jermaine as he has waited for his chance and he was fantastic for the first hour and tenminutes."
