A LIFT company has been accused of letting down a severely disabled boy by failing to complete a contract.

DDA Lifts, of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, was featured on BBC's Watchdog programme on Tuesday evening after a couple from Kent contacted the consumer programme to say they were devastated by the way they had been treated.

Sallyann and Tony Galley, from Beckenham, say they paid £12,000 for a lift for their ten-year-old son, Liam, which is too dangerous to use.

They say DDA Lifts has so far ignored their desperate pleas to get the work finished after nearly a year.

They say they are still having to carry Liam, who has cerebral palsy, up and down two flights of stairs to his bedroom and specially adapted bath.

Mother-of-four Mrs Galley said: "We can't believe after nearly a year, we are still waiting."

The couple have had extensive work done to adapt their house for Liam and his wheelchair, which included installing the lift, widening doors and making more open space.

The building works were finished in April, last year, when the couple say the lift should have been finished as well. But 11 months on, they say there are still uncovered wires, a crack in the safety door and the floor covering has not been fitted.

DDA Lifts has refused to comment, saying that it is talking to its client about the situation.

The company told the BBC delays were made to installing the lift but this was because of building work at the house.
