A COMPANY about to mark 25 years in County Durham is looking ahead to the next quarter of a century with the backing of business and council chiefs.

DJH Engineering, which has a worldwide reputation for the design and manufacture of precision scale locomotive kits, has expanded its operation at Consett Business Park and is planning to increase its workforce from 42 to 47.

Durham County Council was instrumental in securing a site for the company following the closure of Consett steelworks.

The county council and its inward investment and business development section, County Durham Development Company (CDDC), has worked with the company ever since, helping it move and expand.

DJH Engineering managing director Stephen Widdows said: "We have a loyal, skilful and specialised local workforce which was one of the key factors in our original decision to locate to County Durham."
