Bishop Auckland Independent Supporters' Club this week launched their "Supporters' Stadium Fund" with the aim of raising much needed funds to help their club return to Bishop Auckland.

Bishops have been ground sharing at nearby Shildon since they left their historic home of Kingsway at the end of the 2001/2 season. As a result Bishops were demoted from the UniBond Premier Division and faced further demotion at the end of the current season before agreeing a ground share with UniBond colleagues Spennymoor United for 2004/5.

Work has continued behind the scenes to get the club back into the town and onto a newly developed site at Tindale Crescent and, with the sale of Kingsway imminent, the time is right for supporters of the club to assist in the club's return.

Although no targets have been set for the fund, the organisers are delighted to have raised over £200 within ten days of the launch and the campaign gathered pace when supporters were each issued with free money boxes which it is hoped will be filled and returned to the club over the course of the months ahead.

Supporters can find out more about the fund and ideas on fundraising by logging onto the club's website on www.bishopafc.com.

Moneyboxes are available by post from John Cowey at 2 Neville's Cross Villas, Neville's Cross, Durham DH1 4JR or from Poindexters Computer Shop in Victoria Avenue, Bishop Auckland.
