Some of the region's top racing trainers open their stable doors to the public on Good Friday.

The Middleham Open Event claimed its biggest crowd last year, when warm, sunny weather tempted thousands to enjoy a glimpse behind the scenes at yards around the North Yorkshire market town.

It is hoped the yards' success in the past year, and some facilities on show for the first time, will attract an even better turnout, between 9.30am and 1pm on Friday, April 9.

Mark Johnston, James Bethell, Karl Burke, Patrick Haslam, Andy Crook, Chris Fairhurst, Micky Hammond, Kate Milligan, George Moore, Jedd O'Keeffe, Chris Thornton, Kate Walton, George and Ann Duffield and John Weymes have all agreed to be part of this year's event.

Last year, stables around Middleham netted more than £3m in prize money while the open day raised £20,000 for local charities.

This year, racing syndicates will also be on hand to talk to anyone interested in becoming more closely involved with racing without actually owning a racehorse.

The new equine veterinary facility will be open to view and the programme includes a country fair, market stalls and trade stands.

Tickets bought in advance cost £5, £4 for concessions, and give entry to all the stables and the veterinary facility.

They also act as passes to travel between Middleham, the outlying stables and the car parks on the coaches provided.
