A POLICEWOMAN facing the sack after she was found with cocaine in a nightclub has resigned.

PC Anna Jakubowiak handed in her notice before her bosses at Durham Police had completed misconduct proceedings against her.

Ms Jakubowiak, 27, who worked in Darlington, was fined £200 with £70 costs after admitting possessing cocaine for her own use when she appeared at York Magistrates' Court in February.

She was arrested last December after a member of staff at the Nexus bar in York found her with a bag of white powder in a toilet cubicle.

The mother-of-two, who lives in Darlington, had been trained to go undercover to buy drugs.

Her solicitor, Graham Hunsley, claimed she had been let down by the force because she was not given counselling to deal with the murky world of drugs.

A Durham Police spokesman said yesterday: "Her resignation has been accepted and misconduct proceedings are at an end."
