Police have appealed for for witnesses following an arson attack on a flat on Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters were called to Eastbourne Avenue, Bensham. Gateshead, at around 12.30pm.
A police spokesman a fire had started in a flat and spread to an adjoining flat. There was no one in the property at the time of the incident.
The fire is being treated as arson and is being investigated by the Arson Taskforce.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time. Anyone with information can call 0191-4544 7555, ext 64145.
