A GIRL who has shown incredible bravery has been singled out for special praise.

Stephanie Clembintson, 13, of Kimblesworth, near Chester-le-Street, suffers from severe migraines and epilepsy.

Despite being bullied at one local comprehensive school, she made a new start at Fyndoune Community College in Sacriston and her grades have started improving.

Last week she received a Child of Courage Award from Durham County Council. Stephanie asked to have it presented to her in a school assembly rather than at the special ceremony at Hardwick Hall last month.

She received a certificate and a glass pyramid trophy from acting headteacher Peter Sykes.

Stephanie said: "I am dead chuffed with it and my friends think it is cool. But it was horrible when I had to go up to collect it though because I was embarrassed." Her proud parents were at the assembly to see her collect the award.

Mum Michelle said: "She thoroughly deserves it after what she has been through over the years.

"She has been in and out of hospital since she was born but never lets it get to her.

"She has had problems at school but got over them and loves going now and always come in smiling."
