THE sky will be no limit when the Forestry Commission welcomes astronomers on Saturday.
The first astronomy event of its kind is being held in Chopwell Wood, near High Spen, Gateshead, from 9pm.
Stargazers of all ages will have the chance to look through powerful telescopes at features of the night sky.
Experts from Sunderland Astronomical Society will be on hand to give a commentary and point out spring constellations.
Recreation ranger Richard Gilchrist said: "Although much of Tyneside is blighted by light pollution, Chopwell is fairly well shielded by thousands of trees.
"That makes stars stand out brilliantly. We will be looking at the planets and viewing sparkling star clusters and remote galaxies."
The Forestry Commission has been staging star parties at Kielder Forest for six years, but this will be the first event of this kind at Chopwell.
