COMEDIENNE Brenda Collins, who has appeared at such illustrious venues as the London Palladium, is to return to her County Durham roots to present a one-night fundraiser.

Brenda, who has also shared a stage with top stars including Sacha Distel and Bruce Forsyth, recently became one of the 100 "Women of Substance'' who took up the challenge to each raise £1,000 for the Great North Air Ambulance Appeal.

To bring in her share of the money, Brenda is to stage a one-woman show in her home village of Bowburn.

The event will be held in the village's community centre on Friday, at 7pm.

Brenda, who has been a comedienne for 37 years, will be remembered by many in the area as the other half of the former stage duo Krack and Dorn.

Her show promises to provide a night of laughter as well as a chance to help raise the money needed for the air ambulance appeal.

"I have already raised some of the money, but Friday will be the big event,'' said Brenda.

Her old pals in the village may not immediately recognise her on stage, as she appears in various guises, from Cilla Black to the Angel of the North.

Tickets for the show cost £1.50 for adults and 50p for children. They are available from Bowburn Community Centre or at the door on the night of the event.
