With her 30th birthday looming she has had more to worry about than most.

Not for her concerns about wrinkles, middle-aged spread and ticking biological clocks - instead she has faced torrid tales about her husband and the father of her two adorable sons.

While the world has been greedily devouring every sordid detail revealed by the two women who claim to have slept with her husband, Victoria has been subjected to some of the worst insults and innuendoes.

David's alleged infidelity has been blamed on everything from Victoria's weight loss and lack of cleavage to her decision to pursue a career and basing her life in the UK while her husband flew to Spain.

Now if I was married to David Beckham I would probably be quite happy to spend my days following him around the world, spending his money and gazing at his gorgeous body but Victoria wants more.

Her pop career may be failing but why should her unfailing ambition be an excuse for Golden Balls to show his tackle to any passing woman?

Throughout her life Victoria has always been a staunch family girl - with her mother, sister and brother helping her out at every turn.

Now as a homebody myself I quite understand her reluctance to move her whole life away from a secure emotional base to be near a very busy husband - especially when a private jet can see her back in his arms in a matter of hours.

No-one is suggesting that David will be in Spain for the rest of his career - so where next? Should Victoria simply uproot her life and that of her children every time her husband wants to move for a few months?

Surely the little bit of stability she is creating for her sons and her marriage in the long-term should be applauded?

Even those who think Victoria should be tied to Becks' bootstrings must question the logic that says because she is absent he should be forgiven for playing away.

Does that give every man who commutes to London during the week permission to forget his weekend wife waiting at home?

Whether or not the accusations about David are true, it is a sad world if a wife can not leave her husband's side for weeks at a time without expecting him to jump into bed with another woman.

A lonely husband should speak up, give ultimatums, offer bribes, beg or whatever it takes to get his partner to be with him.

If that fails he should walk away from his marriage before starting to sample all the other sweets in the shop.

This week the father of one of the kiss-and-tell women called on David to get some morals and to feel ashamed of himself - I suggest he looks closer to home with his criticism and gets his daughter to follow the example of the woman she has hurt so much.

Whatever has been thrown at Victoria in the past few weeks she has put her designer gear on, retained a dignified silence and shown the world that she is happy with her man.

And this is no shrinking violet - Victoria has shown her wicked wit with numerous put-downs of fellow celebrities (who sang 'Who let the dogs out' when Jordan walked in to the room or asked Naomi Campbell 'Why do they call you beautiful?' when the patronising model said to her 'Why do they call you posh?')

If she had wanted to engage in a public slanging match Victoria knew she would have a willing audience but she is much better than that.

Actions speak louder than words and so she has played the media like the pro she is, snogging and groping her man at every opportunity.

The smile may have been a bit strained at times but she can hardly be blamed for that - having to prove to the world you are happy when everyone is willing you to crack is hardly a recipe for a genuine sparkling grin.

Having watched Spice World a number of times and heard hundreds of David's interviews I can not believe the couple are pretending to loved up - they are simply not that good at acting.

Yes, they are having problems but most of their worries are coming from outside and, as anyone in love will tell you, if a couple is attacked they will simply pull together and become stronger.

David is the only one in the world who really knows what has happened in his Spanish bedroom but one thing is sure - Victoria believes his explanation and is standing by her man.

Whatever happens she is determined not to become the victim of the situation and for that she should be praised.

Unlike the silly girls raking in money by selling their tittle-tattle, Posh has more important things to worry about like bolstering her career, working like so many other women on her marriage and most importantly protecting her sons from the sordid tales told by people who have no idea what dignity is.
