NEALE Cooper says he has no problems keeping his Hartlepool United players focused on the job ahead.

Pool could clinch a play-off place when they go to Rushden on Saturday, after four straight wins lifted them into the top six.

With 69 points in the bag, are on course for their highest League placing in almost a century of football.

And Cooper, nine away wins in the bag this season, said: "We've won four out of four, and are on a run just at the right time, but ever since I came here the boys have been brilliant.

"We just have to keep ticking over in the same manner and keep focused on the goal. Fitness levels are tremendous and the boys are confident bunch.

"It's not difficult to keep them ticking over - they really are a joy to work with.''

Last weekend's win over Notts County was Pool's 19th of the season and Cooper added: "The last couple of weeks at the club have been great, the standard on the park has been good and everyone knows what we are looking for.

"If we keep on winning, then who cares what he other teams do - it's down to us.''

Last night's 1-1 draw between Luton and Bournemouth effectiively leaves Port Vale as Pool's only rivals.

Saturday's opponents Rushden have gone six games without a win and are only a point off the bottom four. Pool are third top of the Division's form table, Rushden are second bottom after the owner, manager and a four key players all left Nene Park.

Acting player-manager Barry Hunter has called on his supporters to turn out in force and said: "It's strange how football works out. Last year we needed a point at home to Hartlepool for the third division title and now we have to beat them for different reasons."

Defender Micky Nelson has returned to light training after suffering a foot injury.

Pool's reserve team will be presented with the Pontin's Holidays title at half-time during the game with Plymouth on Saturday week.

l Pool have been allocated 2,200 places for the final league game of the season at Swindon on May 8.
