Roach at Silksworth Lake again showed in numbers for Sunday's Stevie Brown Memorial boasting three double figured weights despite bright sunny conditions.

Shimano Quaker rods claimed the top two positions with John Parkinson finishing with 14.5.0 in the net.

Sat on peg five, John loose feeding maggots at eight metres took small roach in the 2 - 3oz bracket all match on the maggot for a convincing victory.

While teammate Peter Hamilton adopting the same tactics off peg 37 found a better stamp of redfins but was relegated to runner up spot when he totalled 11.4.0.

Others in the frame: John Forster (Washington / Harraton) 10.4.0; Peter Smith (Dick Clegg Metro) 9.10.0; Paul O'Donnell (Big Waters AC) 8.6.0.

The opening round of the Middlesbrough AC Wednesday Evening Series on Hutton Rudby Ponds went Club Secretary Ron Thompson as feeder fished maggot and corn accounted for 9.6.0 of carp off peg five followed by Graham Metcalfe 9.1.0 and Malcolm Bell 7.7.0.

Carp scene

Elton Tackle man Phil Sellars recorded the best midweek result at Woodland Lakes when he bagged 85.0.0 on Wednesday.

Phil a regular to the complex put his expertise to good use. Electing to fish the paste at 13 metres from Partridge Lake's peg 34 Phil enjoyed instant sport as carp fed eagerly making for a comfortable win.

Then over on Skylark Lake peg four, Map Elton's Mark Coyne preferred the 'favoured' pellet attack.

Also working at 13 metres Mark tempted mostly carp but a few barbel tench and ide supplemented his 68.9.0 return from Seward's Peter Wright whose net of 61.3.0 came from Partridge.

Saturday's match spread between five of the match lakes attracted 98 competitors to the Woodlands for the start of the Bank Holiday weekend.

There was a significant drop in water temperature yet the score sheet still looked good.

Map Elton anglers dominated the top placings and Mark Calvert came out first nearly 10.0.0 clear of the opposition putting 74.1.0 onto the scales.

Mark drew peg 15 on the consistent Partridge Lake and found the pellet most effective on the day.

He located all his carp at 13 metres with his biggest going 8.0.0.

Nearby on Partridge 12, second place John McGarrrell couldn't quite match the winner's pace and tactics and fish-wise it was a similar story for 65.13.0.

The killing bait at present is the pellet and carp enthusiasts Steve Rothery and Tony Hopkins sweated it out for top spot during Sunday's Oaks Whizzo Open at Sessay.

Staged on Cedar Pool, Steve of Daylight Baits drew peg 41 and presenting the pole over to the island extracted carp to the pound mark for an arm aching 77.4.0.

For Tony of Colmic Ossett on peg 51 bigger carp were on the order of the day with samples touching 3.0.0 but at the weigh in 75.10.0 left him short.
