PUPILS are using traditional craftwork methods to prepare a rug which will be exhibited at an arts festival.

A room at Barnard Castle Preparatory School has been devoted to the preparation of the proddy rug, which will be displayed at Barnard Castle Arts Festival.

The theme of the festival is All Things Bright and Beautiful and the youngsters have used their own illustrations on the theme to decorate the rug.

The children are being taught the proddy rug technique by Christine Haslam, wife of headteacher Ted.

The festival will be held in Barnard Castle Methodist Church from Saturday, May 29, to Monday, May 31.
