PENSIONERS in Middlesbrough can get more than just a book when they go to the town's central library.

Every Friday they will find Department of Works and Pensions advisor Sue Mayhew in the children's section.

She will be offering people advice and support on a range of benefits and pension issues, including Pension Credit and council and housing tax benefit.

The Middlesbrough Pension Service local team contacted Middlesbrough Council to agree possible venues.

The team was delighted when the central library was offered.

The first advice session was held last Friday.

Ms Mayhew said: "This is a lovely venue to be in, offering confidential advice on a one-to-one basis, and I hope that lots of people will phone to make an appointment.

"Whether you are newly retired, or are already a pensioner or care for an older person, I'm here to assist with state pension issues and other entitlements.

"I can carry out a benefits health check to make sure that you are getting all of the money that is due to you.''

Anyone wanting to make an appointment for the Middlesbrough Library Pension Service advice surgery, can call 0845 6060265.

Details of other surgeries in the Teesside area can be obtained by calling the same number.
