Castle Eden Under-13s played their first league home game of the season on Saturday. They had a convincing win over Hylton with their captain Keith Bailey running up a massive 107 not out.
This is the first century by a junior player at Castle Eden, although other Eden junior players have scored a 100 in the past but not at their home ground. Craig Thirlaway assisted with an impressive 35 not out to finish their innings with 171 for just one wicket.
The Eden players continued their great start in the field also. Young Ryan Kelly, who is only ten-years-old took 5 wickets for 10 runs from 4 overs. Other contributions from Matthew Cook 2 overs, 1 maiden 1 wicket for two runs, David Cowie 2 overs, 1 wicket for 12 runs, Michael Robson 2 overs, 1 wicket for 12 runs, Callum Harding 3 overs 1 wicket for 8 runs, Ross Kirtley 3 overs, 1 maiden for 9 runs.
Another win in the evening sunshine for the Under-15s at their home ground on Monday night against Easington. Castle Eden fielded first, keeping Easington to 83 for 8 wickets. A good performance from the bowlers with Callum Harding 4 overs 2 wickets for 19 runs, Craig Thirlaway 2 overs 2 wickets for 8 runs, Ross Kirtley 4 overs, 1 wicket for 15 runs, Martin Dunn 1 over 1 wicket for 8 runs, Keith Bailey 4 overs 1 wicket for 19 runs, Jonathon Malkin 4 overs 1 wicket for 13 runs and Christopher Freeman 1 over for 8 runs. A Good batting performance with Jonathon Malkin, opening batsman running up 19 not out. Captain Jonathon Brown ran up an impressive 35 runs for Castle Eden to finish on 86 for 2 wickets beating Easington who had 83 for 8 wickets.
