A RAINFOREST teeming with butterflies and insects and the sounds of wildlife has been recreated in a school corridor.

Key Stage Two pupils at Bullion Lane Primary School, Chester-le-Street, completed the project as part of their environmental sciences and geography studies. Deputy headteacher Marian Walker said hundreds of pounds worth of plants had been loaned by Foxwood Garden Centre to line a corridor.

She said: "The pupils have created a canopy, done all the artwork and have made butterflies and insects. We also have a CD playing authentic sounds from the rainforest, to create the ambience.

"Just as these plants are on loan to us, so the environment is given to us on loan, and we must look after it."

The pupils also staged the musical production Emerald Crown.
