FIFTY-SEVEN competitors turned out to run the first of the White Horse Handicaps at Harrowgate Hill on May 6.

First home was Stephen Minns from Shildon completing the course in an excellent time of 41:22. It was good to see the newer members of the Quakers Running Club compete at Teesdale's Raby Castle on Sunday. On yet another hot day for racing, the course was undulating yet scenic and totally traffic free. First home for the club was Dawn Richardson who finished 4th lady, claiming the 3rd senior lady prize and 50th overall out of 371 runners to complete the course in 41:17. In the 5K Fun Run, competitors had to complete one lap of the undulating 10K course. Thomas Adkins was first Quaker home out of 169 runners to finish the course in 34:33 to take 74th place, followed by Craig Watson, 101st, 38:27, Katie Park, 126th, 42:08, Vicky Park, 131st, 43:46 and Graham Park, 132nd, 43:46. Julia Orr once again was competing on the track at Gateshead last week. She finished 4th in the senior womens 1500 m race in 4:56:5 beating her time at the North Eastern championships.

The Quakers Running Club will co-host Hamsterley Forest 10K and fun run this Sunday with Butterwick Hospice. The fun run starts at 10.30am, followed by the main event at 11am. Entry forms available from the club or Butterwick Hospice, alternatively enter on the day for a small additional charge.

The next Inov-8 Fell race is Chapelfell Top on June 13. The race starts from the Golden Lion pub in St John's Chapel, Weardale at 11 am and is 4 miles long with 1322 feet of ascent. Register on the day.

The third of the White Horse Handicaps will be held on Thursday, 17 June at the White Horse Hotel, Harrowgate Hill, Darlington. Runners are encouraged to register by 6.30 pm for the 7.15 pm start. For further details see the clubs website at www.quakersrunningclub.com.
