There was a double programme at the weekend and Kirby Sigston retained pole position winning both matches, writes Malcolm Pratt.

In Saturday's programme they defeated Kildale by ten wickets after restricting the visitors to 110 for six including 32 by Pearson. Clarkson had a good day with the ball for Kirby Sigston returning four for 46 before Harper ended unbeaten on 65 and Lowther made 49 not out in a total of 114 for none.

East Harlsey are second and in their first match they had 96 runs in hand of Scruton after posting 197 for six. Hodgson was outstanding for the visitors and he was only three runs short of a century when he was dismissed. Willey contributed 36 to the total of 197 for six before Scruton were dismissed for 101 of which Norman scored 31. Grainge captured four wickets for 28 runs and Brown three for 25 in the East Harlsey attack.

Swainby found Roger Briddock almost unplayable when they entertained Broughton and Kirby. Briddock took all nine wickets to fall to the attack at a cost of 38 runs with the other wicket being a run out as Swainby managed 80. Scott (54no) and Robinson (26) then swept Broughton and Kirby to a ten wickets victory.

Maltby romped to the massive total of 304 for two in their home game with Ingleby Greenhow. Simon Close opened with 82 and Chris Francis made 71 not out but it was Ben Cowen who top scored ending undefeated on 121.

When Ingleby Greenhow responded they were restricted to 142 for nine as Latif took four wickets for 41 runs and Hall three for 19. Despite making a useful 153 all out Thimbleby lost by five wickets to Chop Gate. Middlemiss (35) and Chapman (30) top performed while for Chop Gate, Riaz had four for 37, Cook three for 16 and Stockton three for 29.

When they went into bat Chop Gate conceded half their wickets after being given a perfect start by Holtby who finished with 57 not out and by Rose (41).

Hutton Rudby defeated Stafford Place by seven wickets. Required to score 153 they were indebted to Dennis for his opening innings of 80 and to Paterson (32no).

Batting first Stafford Place ended on 152 for nine. Following an indifferent start they recovered through Graves (47) and Atkinson (53) while for Hutton Rudby Dennis returned three for 29 and Coombes four for 37.

Crathorne reached almost 200 but still lost at Skelton Castle who won with three wickets remaining.

Mooney (48) and Marshall (61) laid the foundations for Crathorne's total of 193 for nine with Hogarth capturing four wickets for 68 runs.

When they replied Skelton Castle lost an early wicket, but Stainthorpe (50) and Wrigley (47) formed a production partnership for the second wicket and towards the end Irwin finished unbeaten on 31out of a total of 194 for seven. Clemmit was the most successful bowler in the Crathorne attack claiming four wickets for 85 runs.

In Monday's programme Kirby Sigston finished eight wickets winners over Hutton Rudby who were restricted to 107 including 41 by Wyatt. Clarkson had five for 39 and Neil Kendrew four for 31 for Kirkby Sigston who won losing two wickets as Harper contributed a half century.

East Harlsey overtook the Maltby total of 154 for seven losing just three wickets. Hodgson ended with 61 not out and Hunter made 52. Earlier Maltby were indebted to Khan (40), Aldus (35) and Close (30) while for East Harlsey Willey took three wickets at a cost of 57 runs.

Howard Leng claimed four wickets without conceding a run and Clemmit had figures of four for 11 when Scruton managed only 32 all out against Crathorne who won by nine wickets.

In contrast, the runs flowed for Stafford Place who posted 233 for six which included 117 by Metcalfe, O'Donohue added 35 and Atkinson 30, while for Swainby Bedale had four wickets for 39 runs. When they went in to bat Swainby totally 115 for eight as Livingstone took three of their wickets for just 18 runs.
