A SCHOOL bursar has won an award for writing a case study on her work.

Judith Williams received an engraved crystal bowl and cheque after writing a 5,000 word report on her job at Teesdale Comprehensive School, in Barnard Castle.

She collected the prizes at the same time as she received a Certificate in School Business Management at a graduation ceremony in London.

Miss Williams, who has worked in the school office for 14 years but became bursar only a year ago, said: "I have studied a lot in my spare time to gain qualifications, and am delighted to have won the award.

"My case study was about the role of a bursar, which involves everything about the management of a school apart from actually teaching. My study was judged the best from schools around the region."

She is now studying for a Diploma in School Management, and at weekends travels to Lincoln to lecture to other school bursars.

Headteacher Paul Harrison said: "I am delighted that Judith received this award. She is one of the first people in County Durham to undertake the management training, and is now in demand from other places to share her expertise."
