TYLER the terrier is facing a long, hot summer after losing her coat.

The RSPCA is searching for the owners of the hairless Yorkshire Terrier, which was found wandering the streets.

She has been wearing a babygrow to protect her from the sun while her owners are traced.

The terrier, thought to be about eight years old, was picked up by a dog warden in Newcastle after she was spotted by a member of the public. He took one look at her condition and immediately contacted the RSPCA.

RSPCA inspector Sue Craig, who is dealing with the incident, said: "She is suffering from total hair loss and her exposed skin is extremely sore and inflamed.

"She has been placed with a caring foster family."

Ms Craig said: "Aside from her initial appearance, she is in fairly good condition and doesn't look as if she's been stray for long.

"Because of this, we're not ruling out that Tyler is already in the care of a vet and has merely escaped from a garden.

"If this is the case, her owner should not fear coming forward - a simple check with the vet will substantiate their story. But equally, we must look into the possibility that she has been neglected."
