A TEAM of street wardens who patrol neighbourhoods making them safer and cleaner has received an award for extending its role to give advice to residents.
Wear Valley Street Wardens is the first warden scheme in the North-East to receive a quality award from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister's neighbourhood renewal unit.
The award recognises the impact the scheme has had on the Woodhouse Close Estate, in Bishop Auckland, Coundon and Leeholme, and St Helen Auckland, and efforts to extend the service to offer advice.
The accolade follows a Quality Standard award from the Legal Services Commission last year.
Both awards were presented yesterday.
