A YOUNG apprentice is constructing a promising career for herself at one of the country's largest house builders.
Lianne Walker, 20, thought all was lost when, having planned to study for an NVQ in business administration, her training scheme was closed.
A family move from North Yorkshire to Ferryhill added to her problems.
But she was determined to continue with her studies and enrolled on an apprenticeship course run at ITEC North East's Newton Aycliffe training centre.
She was offered a work experience placement at Persimmon Homes Teesside, which was so successful she was offered a full-time post as a sales administrator at head office in Newton Aycliffe.
Ms Walker said: "I really enjoy my work and the apprenticeship is great because it means I am earning and learning at the same time.
"The way I see it is that I am getting the best of both worlds and I wouldn't swap that for anything."
