RISING athletics stars have been celebrating their success at two major competitions.

Teams from Northallerton College won through to the regional finals of the English Schools Track and Field Cup competition.

They were up against teams from eight schools and colleges from an area stretching from South Yorkshire to the Scottish border. The event took place at Gateshead International Stadium.

The intermediate boys' team came third and, said the college's joint head of PE, Alistair Macrae, the team only missed getting through to the national finals 'by a whisker'. The girls' team was eighth.

In a separate event, the boys' and girls' teams from the college competed against eight other schools in the Hambleton and Richmondshire Schools athletics championships. They ran out as team champions for the third year.
