PUBLIC meetings called to discuss the possibility of a North-East regional assembly will go ahead today despite the absence of a Government minister.
Local Government Minister Nick Raynsford has been forced by Parliamentary business to cancel his appearances in Darlington and Sunderland. His place will be taken by Jonathan Blackie, regional director at the Government Office North-East.
The Sunderland meetingtakes place from 1.30pm to 3.30pm, and the Darlington meeting from 4.30pm to 6pm.
