A TEENAGE girl was snatched off a busy street and gang-raped in a car at the weekend, police have revealed.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said the victim was confronted by a number of men as she walked along West Road, in Newcastle, between 10am and 11am on Saturday.

She was bundled into a blue saloon car and driven to the rear of a car wash in Westgate Road, where the attack took place.

Several men were in the vehicle, but officers say it is unclear how many raped the girl.

Detective Inspector Terry McNamara said: "The girl has been left severely traumatised by the attack, and we are still trying to establish an exact location.

"She has been able to say it happened between 10am and 11am on Saturday. She had been walking along West Road when she was forced into the car.

"From there, the car was driven to a vicinity at the rear of the car wash, opposite the fire station, where she was raped."

Detectives say the girl was held down in the back seat.

The suspects were said to be of Asian appearance.

After the attack, the victim made her way back to Westgate Road, where she spoke to a woman of African-Caribbean appearance.

Police said they wanted to speak to the woman.

* Two men, aged 18 and 20, have been arrested in connection with incident and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.
