MIDDLESBROUGH will reassess potential transfer targets once they have completed the capture of Leeds United striker Mark Viduka.

Boro boss Steve McClaren has made the arrival of Viduka his first priority and signing a new right-back is also high on the manager's list of summer goals.

McClaren has been linked with a number of midfielders during the last week, with Bayern Munich's Owen Hargreaves understood to be high on the Teesside outfit's wish list.

But, while remaining an admirer of the England international's talents, the Boro chief has not made a £4m bid for the player.

In fact the Carling Cup winners will not be attempting to bring in any new faces until the arrival of Viduka has been confirmed.

It is only a matter of time before the former Celtic forward is unveiled at the Riverside as McClaren's first summer acquisition.

When he is, Boro will then work out what finances can be made available to McClaren's summer strengthening plan.

"Considerations for improving other positions are on the back burner until we resolve the striker situation," said England's assistant manager at Euro 2004, who also has eyes on Portsmouth forward Ayegbeni Yakubu.

Dutch full-back Michael Reiziger is certainly one player the Boro boss is also keen on adding to his ranks and productive talks have already taken place.

Reiziger, available on a free transfer from Barcelona, is seen as the solution to McClaren's defensive problem on the right side.

And, providing he arrives, McClaren will then monitor the options available to him as he looks to strengthen numbers in midfield.

Yesterday Arsenal's Ray Parlour became the latest name to be mentioned as a summer target for McClaren and there has been a suggestion Jonathan Greening could be offloaded to West Brom.

There is still a chance Bolo Zenden will arrive in the North-East on a permanent basis, but the fact he is weighing up his options at Chelsea means Boro may look elsewhere.

Cameroon striker Joseph Job officially became a free agent today after his contract at Boro expired.

However, the former Lens man has indicated he is willing to extend his stay with McClaren's men and it is only a matter of time before he signs a new contract.

Meanwhile, Boro will receive a triple boost when they return for pre-season training on Monday.

Gareth Southgate, Andrew Davies and Malcolm Christie will all be fit to restart training after missing the end of season run in through injury.

Southgate's knee injury also meant that he had to be ruled out of England's push in Euro 2004, while both centre-back Davies and striker Christie have not played since breaking a leg earlier in the year.
