Worthington CIU Summer League: Wheatley Hill A beat the visiting reigning champions, Spennymoor A to move three points clear at the top of the table as second placed Fishburn lost by the odd point at Newhouse.

Despite losing by the odd point at home to Shotton Palms, Willington are in third place, five points adrift of Fishburn.

Paul Biddle with a 39 break was the only winner for Spennymoor A but Paul Atkinson put in a 48 break only to be beaten by the Hill's Dave Walker. The other home winners were Dean Bryden, Ronnie Peacock with a 30 break and Jack Wright.

John Maddox put Newhouse ahead against the visiting Fishburn A, who took the next two through John Carter and Peter Davison. The fourth frame proved a classic with John Griffin needing two snookers on the colours against Paul Wright. He succeeded in getting them but then missed the green with Wright taking advantage to take the remaining colours to level the match. In the decider Newhouse's Graeme Thompson beat Charlie Hirst.

Willington took the first and last frames against the visiting Shotton Palms when Arthur Goldsborough with a 45 break and Jeremy Martin won. However the Palms went to victory with wins from Jimmy Evans, Dave Swindle and Colin Jobes.

Sherburn Village were never headed when they entertained Witton Gilbert. Adrian twist put the home side ahead but John Rooney senior levelled. John Bower restored the home lead only to see Paul Nord equalise. The decider proved to a nail-biter as Ian Renwick put in a 30 break for Witton but Scott Mallaburn stuck to the task and eventually took the final black to take his team to victory.

Meadowfield won the middle three frames at Crowtrees to record an odd point win. Dave Lowery and Keith McLauchlan won for Crowtrees with Stephen Hughes, Craig Hughes and Norman Smith taking Meadowfield to victory.

After Graeme Jackson won the first frame for Brandon at Newton Aycliffe they never lost the lead. Richie Young equalised but Kevin Sample restored the visitors' lead only to see Mark Howe and level. In the decider Brandon's Brian Graham beat Bill Barrigan on the final black.

Stanley Central extended their lead at the top of the Second Division after they only dropped one point at Durham City, who had Michael Pratt as their only winner. The Central's points came from Michael Vickary, Harry grimes, Jimmy Musgrove and Bob Oxley.

Bearpark A are in second place in the Second Division, three points behind Stanley after they took the first three points through Shaun Easter, John Jackson and Glen Morton against the visiting Langley Park. Robert Roche and Stephen Coates then won for the Park.

New Durham slipped a point behind Bearpark A after they only took two points at Coundon A where their winners were Thomas Cairns and Neil Phillips, who put in a 36 break to Mally Ryder, who had knocked in a 31 break. The home side had wins from Willy Shoulder, Mick McKerry and Graham Goulbourn.

Wheatley Hill B took the first three points at Old Shildon with wins from Philip Taylor, Ken Johnson and Kevin Connor. The home side then replied with wins from Martin Taylor and Paul Armstrong.

Ken Rider potted the decisive final black to become Crook Belle Vue's only winner at Spennymoor B, who had points from Alan Clarke, Alan Rouell, Micky Anderson and Wayne Parry.

Sacriston look to be coasting their way to the Third Division title and they strengthened their chances with a whitewash home success over Tow Law A. The home points came from Alan Richardson, Mark Appleby, Jeff Evans, Willy Nixon and Mike Pritchard.

Ferryhill B moved up to share second place with Hunwick after they only dropped one point on their visit to Leeholme B, who had Tony Clish as their point scorer. The visitors' winners were Mark Wilson, Stuart Roddam, David nelson and Chris Buston.

Hunwick had home wins from Barry Fleming, Neville Blenkinsopp, John Bate and Trevor Lomax with John Hall taking the only point for the visiting Crowtrees B.

The Victoria led twice at home to Coundon B but then went down in the decider. Ronnie Murray put the home side ahead with Steve Bainbridge equalising. Colin Pratt restored the home lead only to see Dave Lidster level. In the decider Coundon's Geoff Duff beat Gareth Taylor.

Tow Law B took the first and last points against the visiting Bearpark B through Adam Orton and John Wilson. The visitors' winners were Bob Lumley, Paul Wilson and Anthony Cooper.

Leeholme A made a good odd point away win over Fishburn B, who had wins from Michael Bell and George Whitelock. The Leeholme winners were Dave Hudspeth, Dave Fletcher and Karl Thompson.

Hopetown strengthened their top of the table spot in the First Division with a two points home win over Barnard Castle Glaxo. Darlington Snooker Club B maintained their lead at the top of the Second Division with an away draw against Northgate.

The best breaks of the week came from Steven Webb of Bishop Auckland Cricket Club with 55 and 31 and from Alec Appleby of Darlington Snooker Club A with 37.

Worthington CIU Team Knock Out

A fine performance from Michael Pratt in the final frame saw Second Division Durham City beat the visiting Meadowfield from the First Division by thirty points.

The home side received thirty-three points start and were able to extend this to fifty-four after Eric Wright won the first frame. Norman Smith won by twelve, Ian Hodgson by fourteen and Stephen Hughes by thirty to move Meadowfield into a two points lead going into the final frame.

It was then that Pratt pulled out all the stops as he found his old form to beat Craig Hughes by thirty-two points and take Durham City to the Second Round.
