POLICE have made another arrest as part of a long-running inquiry into the death of a North-East market trader.

Tommy Harrison, from Middlesbrough, was arrested on Thursday by officers from Cleveland Police investigating the death of father-of-five Kalvant Singh.

Mr Harrison's son, Lee, of Ormesby Bank, Middlesbrough, appeared at Teesside Crown Court this week to deny the murder in 2001.

He also pleaded not guilty to charges of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm, wounding with intent and aggravated burglary.

Last night, a Cleveland Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that a further man has been arrested in connection with the on-going investigation into the death of Kalvant Singh and associated assaults. He has been assisting with our inquiries and has now been released on police bail."

Mr Singh, 41, died when he fell from a bedroom window of a brothel in Errol Street, Middlesbrough.

Thomas Petch, of east Cleveland, and George Coleman, from Middlesbrough, were found guilty of murder and jailed for life in 2002.

Another man involved in Mr Singh's death, Jonathan Crossling, also of Middlesbrough, was jailed for 18 years last June for manslaughter, reduced to 14 years on appeal.
