COUNCILLORS are set to give their support to a long-awaited project to provide a footpath linking two rural villages.
Residents of Hurworth and Neasham, near Darlington, had campaigned for years for a safe path between the two communities.
Last month, the borough council announced that it intended to spend £115,000 on the facility. The paved surface would be used as a shared footpath and cycleway.
Castlebeck Care, which is running a residential home for autistic people at Neasham's Newbus Grange, is contributing £25,000 towards the scheme.
Cabinet members are expected to approve the construction of the path when they meet on Tuesday.
The council's development director, John Buxton, said: "This is especially important for Neasham residents wishing to access by foot services and schools in Hurworth.
