VILLAGERS are pressing for action to be taken over speeding motorists.
The issue has long been raised by parish councillors in Neasham, near Darlington.
At this week's parish council meeting, chairman John Weighell said neighbouring Hurworth had once again been given speed check equipment.
"Speeding through the village is horrendous. It is only a matter of time before someone is killed," he said.
Councillor John Day said he lived opposite the worst speeding section on Teesway.
"It really is serious and it is quite often mothers with kids in the car on the school run between 8am and 9am or delivery vans. You could alleviate a lot of the problems by tackling those people.
"Those drivers go so fast on the bend they have to drive on the other side of the road. These include big 4x4s and I have even seen a bus that couldn't take the bend."
PC Boyd Rowe said he had been told that the speed check equipment could only be put on a straight section of road to get an accurate reading.
"We need to talk to the people who allocate the equipment first-hand and get our point across," said Coun Day.
A Darlington Borough Council highways engineer will be invited to the authority's next meeting.
