A GALA evening to mark the 20th anniversary of the 1984 miners' strike was staged in east Durham last night.
Held in the Glebe Centre, Murton, the musical extravaganza was presented by a host of local talent who helped to get everyone in the mood for the forthcoming Durham Miners' Gala.
The title of the event - Still Round Our Banners We Will Stand - was taken from the lyrics of a traditional County Durham song, which was recited last night by local poet Keith Armstrong.
Other attractions included music from Jez Lowe, whose songs reflect life in the former mining communities of east Durham where he grew up.
Also performing was folk singer Marie Little, who also takes her inspiration from the North-East.
Hosting the evening was master of ceremonies, raconteur and singer Dave Douglass.
Other performers included Northumbrian piper Chris Ormston, Murton Colliery Brass Band, Anne Suddick and members of Northern Women Against Pit Closures who appeared with women of the former Easington Colliery Miners' Support Group.
Money raised from the event will be donated to Mac-millan Cancer Relief.
