CHILDREN at a village primary school are celebrating a runaway success in sports.
Stanley Crook Primary School, in Stanley village, near Crook, has been awarded the Active Mark Gold Award.
Sport England presented the school with the honour in recognition of its good quality physical education and its extra sports activities.
Headteacher Shirley Oswald said PE co-ordinator Mrs A Brown had worked hard to ensure all children had fun and were involved in a range of physical activities.
The school has encouraged playground games during break times and the use of its new £15,000 play equipment, which includes a climbing frame and swing tyres.
It also holds team games and individual sports sessions, such as tag rugby and gymnastics during lessons and in after-school clubs, and events such as a memorial cricket match with neighbouring schools.
She said: "We are proud to receive this prestigious award. It is a collaboration of all efforts."
