FORMER Thirsk School student, Victoria Smith, has not just gained a degree in embroidery, she has won a job designing for a company supplying Marks & Spencer.

Victoria, 22, of Gordon House, Knayton, won several accolades while studying at Manchester Metropolitan University. She won a computerised embroidery award and was invited to London Graduate Fashion Week to exhibit six heavily-embroidered dresses.

Before her three-year BA course, Victoria completed a foundation course at York.

Two of her art teachers at Thirsk, Alison Britton and Tony Hall, both of whom have given her strong support, attended her degree ceremony.

She starts her new job designing embroidery on items of clothing manufactured by Marks & Spencer suppliers, Dewhirst's, in Knutsford next week and will live in Chester.
