A digital television service dedicated to North-East bus timetables is launched today.

The scheme will give Sky satellite and Telewest and ntl cable viewers access to a range of public transport information at the press of a remote control button.

Tyne and Wear public transport operator Nexus is introducing the digital TV service as a pilot scheme, which will run until March.

The pages will also include information on the Metro and Shields Ferry, plus a contact page, where viewers can request information or register a complaint.

Nexus plans to add more services and interactivity to the scheme over the course of the pilot.

Ken Brown, corporate e-business manager for Nexus, said: "The idea of the digital television pilot is to broaden out access to public transport information to as many people as possible."
