TANCRED TIMES won the 15th race of her career at Catterick yesterday, but the victory was not without incident because she shot winning rider Lee Enstone out of the saddle five yards after the winning line, writes Colin Woods.

Thankfully, although hitting the deck at around 30mph, Lee emerged relatively unscathed. "She just jinked right and I've jarred my wrist in the fall," reported the jockey prior to weighing in for the Luncheon Suite Selling Stakes.

"She's always been a quirky mare but that's just her and it's a pity we had to drop her into selling grade," said relieved trainer David Barker after there was no bid for his long-serving nine-year-old at the subsequent auction

"That was her 133rd race in all and she's still got what it takes. When the second came to challenge her she out-battled him," added Barker.

David Barron has a potentially useful two-year-old on his hands after the runaway success of Lamh Eile in the Middleham Suite Novice Auction Stakes.

Having won on her debut at Ayr a fortnight ago, Lamh Eile was a warm-order even-money favourite to follow-up. And neither did she disappoint her backers, scooting five lengths clear of the runner-up, Coleorton Dane, to collect in convincing fashion.

"There's nothing flashy about this filly but she's got an engine and that is what really counts," said delighted handler David Barron, a trainer to follow over the coming weeks given the excellent form of his horses.

There was plenty of cash in the betting ring for Reg Hollinshead's Nanna, who justified the market confidence when making every yard of the running to take the five-furlong Richmond Suite Handicap.

Winning rider Tony Culhane had his mount out of the stalls like a flash and the combination never saw another rival as they passed the post with three-quarters of a length to spare over second-home Icenslice.

Culhane completed a 26-1 double in the final race by adopting the same tactics when partnering Listen To Reason to an all-the-way victory in the Paddock Suite Maiden Stakes.

"Hopefully he can go on from this as the owners have been extremely patient," said trainer James Given.
