Get on the "Rest Of The World" team at around 6-4 to beat the short-priced Great Britain & Ireland contingent in the latest renewal of the Shergar Cup at Ascot this afternoon.

The "away" team is overseen by former Champion Jockey Michael Roberts and comprises Frankie Dettori, Weichong Marwing, Gerald Mosse, Damien Olivier, Yutake Take and Dario Varigu.

And, as is usually the case at Ascot, Frankie Dettori, who has just taken over from Kieren Fallon at the head of the jockey's table, can be the star of the show as he has three mounts with very solid claims.

The banker of the meeting is Dettori's mount Starry Lodge, a progressive sort who ran his best race when third to Arcalis in the ultra competitive John Smith's Cup at York last month, in the Carvill Shergar Cup Challenge over a mile and a half.

Luca Cumani's colt has won six of his 11 starts but shaped that day at York as though the return to a mile and a half would be in his favour.

He's almost certainly capable of better and is preferred to Yutake Take's mount Muhareb.

Dettori can be on the mark earlier in the afternoon aboard Bob Jones' Unshakable in the Murphy's Fastlow Shergar Cup Mile.

Although well drawn at Goodwood last time he wasn't seen to best effect as he was shuffled down the pack at an early stage and could never get the gaps at the right time when he was attempting to make ground.

He's much better judged on his previous effort from a moderate draw at Sandown and he's taken to reverse placings with Pentecost, the winner that day, on these terms and he won't mind any easing of the ground.

Dettori can cap a good day's work by lifting the Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup Sprint Handicap with Doitnow for the in-form Richard Fahey stable.

The three-year-old has come a fairly long way in a very short space of time and turned in his best effort yet at Newbury last time against older opposition. He's taken to go very close back in his own age group.

Dario Varigu looks to have solid claims of landing the Porthault Shergar Cup Juvenile over seven furlongs on David Barron's progressive Lamh Eile, who is unbeaten in two starts.

Following a wide margin win at Ayr on her debut, the daughter of Lend A Hand was always travelling strongly before going on to beat a subsequent winner upped to this trip at Catterick last time and she's open to plenty of further improvement.

Mark Johnston rarely leaves the big Ascot events empty handed and his Royal Ascot winner Double Obsession is fancied to give a good account in the Sodexho Shergar Cup Stayers Rated Handicap under Damien Oliver.

Great Britain & Ireland can get the day off to a flier, though, with Forever Phoenix in the Prince's Trust Shergar Cup Distaff Rated Handicap over six furlongs.

On her latest start Robert Cowell's four-year-old ran a blinder to finished ahead of those that raced on the stands side group at this course and the two that finished ahead of her on the far side that day included subsequent

Stewards Cup winner Pivotal Point.
