A MAN who used "uncontrollable violence" against two women in a terrifying ordeal in their home has failed to get his sentence cut.

Christopher Bourne, 22, of Chapel Row, Tow Law, County Durham, was jailed for four years at Teesside Crown Court in February, after he admitted false imprisonment, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault.

He was also ordered to serve an extended term of three years, meaning that if, in the 36 months after his release, he offends, he can be returned to jail. London's Criminal Appeal Court refused to cut his sentence, rejecting claims it was manifestly excessive.

Bourne said he was invited in for sex with the women, and that he had intercourse with one of them before an argument broke out. They denied his claims.

Mr Justice Pitchers said the trial judge had no doubt the women were telling the truth.

On August 17 last year, the women returned from a nightclub to the house they shared in the Wolsingham area.

Bourne was invited in to wait for a friend, but suddenly became aggressive.

He picked up a knife and shouted that he was not going to leave, but hold them hostage.

He lunged with the knife and one woman was cut on her palm. He smashed crockery and glasses, and when her friend tried to run out, he held the knife as a threat.

When one victim tried to calm him down, he pushed her against a kitchen unit shouting abuse. He told the friend he would kill her and held a knife to her throat.

Police arrived soon after, and disarmed and arrested Bourne.

Mr Justice Pitchers said Bourne had a dreadful record, having been before the courts on many occasions, no fewer than ten times for offences of violence.
