AN environmental fun day will take place on the banks of Derwent Reservoir on Bank Holiday Monday.

The event, staged by Durham County Council, takes place at Pow Hill Country Park, near Edmundbyers, starting at 12.30pm.

Members of the Children's Network, a register for children with disabilities and special needs, will attend the event, but it is open to all.

Rob Watson, Durham County Council's Children's Network project worker, said: "The network wants to help disabled young people and their families find out about opportunities to access countryside activities.

"The fun day will include a series of activity trails, some of which are self-guided and require basic literacy skills and some of which are led by countryside rangers and require only enthusiasm."

One of the trails is suitable for wheelchair-users and most activities take place in the car park, which has a wheelchair-friendly surface.

Among the activities will be a sensory display, handicrafts, badge-making, face-painting and demonstrations of country crafts.
