More former stars of Darlington Football Club will have their achievements recognised at the weekend, when the Quakers host a major community event.

A list of ten ex-players has been drawn up and their names will eventually grace corporate boxes at the Williamson Motors Stadium, on Neasham Road.

The re-naming of the boxes will take place at an open day and fun day at the ground on Sunday. More former players will be honoured by having their names added to boxes at a later date.

The move follows the recent re-naming of suites at the stadium in honour of Quakers' legends Ron Greener and Kevan Smith.

Activities at the community day, which runs from 10am to 4pm, include children's entertainers, exhibitions from sponsors such as Darlington Building Society, the emergency services and the Army, and a TFM Radio roadshow.

Bars and food outlets will also be open and visitors will be able to take a behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium. First-team players will be attending the event, signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans.

Quakers' chief executive Andy Battison said: "It is important that, in this new era of the club, we do not leave behind more than 120 years of tradition.

"Already we have returned the team to wearing hoops and recognised the achievements of Ron Greener and Kevan Smith, as well as the tradition of the Tin Shed.

"This event will give the public a chance to find out more about Darlington Football Club and the Williamson Motors Stadium, and have a fun day out, while we also take the next step in honouring the Quakers' stars of the past."

Meanwhile, the club is due to be freed from the shackles of administration today tomorrow. The Football League board is set to approve the Quakers' league share to Darlington FC Ltd, the company formed by the Sterling Consortium to take over the running of the club.
