THE public is to get a rare chance to see the inside of a court and its cells this weekend - without the usual consequences.

Northallerton Courthouse, which has only recently reopened after an extensive programme of refurbishment, is throwing open its doors for all visitors to see on Saturday.

And yesterday, magistrates and other officials took a break from their normal business to rehearse the mock trials that will take place during the open day.

As well as the trials, a number of special displays are planned including a "black museum" of fake and counterfeit goods seized by trading standards officials.

The doors will open at 10am and a team of experienced court officers and magistrates will be on hand to answer any questions that arise until 4pm.
